"Is this a good price?" — the same auction screen, one answer per idea

Worked example from Discovery 2: London King's Cross → York, LNER 06:30, Mon 21 Sep, opening bid £19, buy now £42. Board 0 is today's screen for comparison; boards 1–4 are the viable ideas; board 5 is the future one. Only the reference card changes between boards.

Unverified, and read it that way. These are discovery prototypes, not a design decision and not a build spec. Every fare on these screens is an illustrative worked example, not a figure pulled from Snowflake, and no customer has seen any of them yet. Three of the five ideas need a cheapest-fare cache that does not exist. Production design goes through Liz's team.

Today

Today. Route-and-weekday average, assumes the average Standard fare, saving against a ticket they never chose. Figures illustrative: the doc quotes '£29 saving' and '35%'. In July nobody read it as an answer.

1 · Walk-up fare as a fact

Always true at every point in the auction. The customer does the subtraction. Label must say 'at the station on the day', never 'First Class costs'. Weak days out, when the real alternative is a cheaper Advance.

2 · Cheapest fare on sale

Same component, but the number follows what is really buyable: £172 while Advance is on sale, £295 once it has gone. Needs the cheapest-fare cache.

3 · Smallest gap as a floor

Advance gap £83.60, Anytime gap £122.90. Smallest is £83.60. Minus the £19 bid = £64.60, 'save at least £65'. On Monday, Advance gone, floor becomes £122.90 and the line reads 'save at least £104'. Needs the cheapest-fare cache.
